Assignment #1: Autobiographical Summary (Write a quick 1–2-paragraph hardcopy description of yourself, including your medical plans, and bring it to the next class.)

COMMENTS: Our first class is a chance to get acquainted with each other. Be ready to interview an unknown classmate (your impromptu research subject) and think about this: When exploring someone, is it better to ask them open questions (e.g., "What are your favorite kinds of foods?") or closed questions (e.g., "Do you own a car?"). How do our choices about investigation strategies frame the subjects we explore?

COMMENTS: Resumes and CVs are "survival documents" that every student should know how to generate on demand. Moreover, they are "living documents" that change and adapt to your needs throughout your life. In this class we will also outline what a personal statement is and how to write yours.
