Summer 2020

Instructor: Norman Douglas ("Doug") Bradley

This technical writing course will introduce you to some of the principles of writing done in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) areas. We will investigate the nature of technical writing, some subtle ways that tech writing differs from academic and narrative forms found in the humanities and social sciences, and the formatting, document design, and graphics appropriate to this genre. We will work on two main projects in this program: an individual development plan (IDP), and a set of instructions pertinent to the lab where you work. Each will require you to effectively apply principles of technical communication and design. Along the way, we will also work on some basic communication and writing skills.

During the Summer 2020 SIMS session, we will meet MWF online at 11:15 a.m. –12:15 p.m. See the SIMS 2020 GauchoSpace page for Zoom links.
