All students in Writing 109ST must write a resume; however, some students should also consider writing a CV. (Writing a CV in Writing 109ST is optional.) While resumes are usually no longer than two pages, a CV offers a far more detailed look at your experience and may easily be ten, twenty, or more pages in length. They are often required for graduate and specialized programs such as medical schools. If you know that you will need a CV soon, or would merely like to start on one, I will help you.
Students applying for professional programs such as law and medical schools are required to write a brief personal statement. Because these statements are relatively brief (e.g., the AMCAS statement for medical schools is limited to 5300 characters, including spaces) but demand a full description of the applicant's motives for applying, many students describe the statement as "the most difficult thing I've ever written." It is not unusual for a personal statement to require weeks or months to write, with many, many rewrites along the way. Like the CV, writing a personal statement is not required in Writing 109ST; however, if you need help writing one I will gladly assist you. This will require a minimum of two hours of office meetings with me and plenty of time and effort on your part. The sooner we start on your statement, the better!
